The use of low carbon steel is limited due to its low strength. The strength of the carbon steel can be greatly improved by properly increasing the manganese content in the GB/T 3077 alloy steel grade 12Cr1MoV carbon steel and adding some alloy elements such as vanadium, titanium and niobium. If the carbon content in the carbon steel is reduced and a small amount of aluminum, boron and carbide forming elements are added, the ultra-low carbon bainite can be obtained, GB/T 3077 alloy steel grade 12Cr1MoV which has high strength and good plasticity and toughness.

Z-direction steel refers to thick steel with good tensile resistance in thickness direction. In the application of steel plate, the reason for additional performance requirements on the thickness direction of steel is due to the existence of defects in the thickness direction of steel in the process of casting and rolling. This defect makes the steel prone to lamellar tearing during welding, which reduces or even loses the design bearing capacity of application. The Z-direction performance is required for GB/T 3077 alloy steel grade 12Cr1MoV and so on steel plate with the tensile force along the plate thickness direction greater than or equal to 40mm.
